Favorite Story as a Sister – When I first moved to Dallas, TX, a friend of the sisters at the convent invited the entire community to her family’s house in the countryside. The older sister of this friend was a retired police officer and was given one of the “police horses” that she worked with. She offered the sisters an opportunity to ride this beautiful horse, and I was chosen to be the “lucky person” to ride the horse side-saddle, with no saddle – a perfect “photo-op,” (so I thought) especially with me wearing my religious habit! This former police officer told me that the horse was quite gentle and would respond to small nudges, but specifically said "Be careful. Do not pull on her mane or else, she will get scared and begin to gallop quickly." Let’s just say I was in for an exhilarating, heart-beating, death-defying adventure because the moment she placed me on the horse, I had nothing to hold onto except for the horse’s mane!!!
