Favorite Story as a Sister

Last year I had the opportunity to visit our Motherhouse in Vietnam. It happened to be rainy season when I visited, and that particular day it rained a massive amount and in no time the entire yard was filled with water. I was sleeping in a room connected to the yard when suddenly I woke up, sensing that the power went off in the house. When I got out of bed, my feet touched water!  I slowly put my feet to the ground, and the water went up to my knees!  I blindly walked out of my room to try to find another room on a higher level.

Since this was the first time I stayed at the Motherhouse I did not know where I was going. It took me awhile wading in the water in the dark to find someone. Suddenly I saw a faint light under one of the doors. I knocked on the door and was relieved to find a sister. She took me to a higher room on the second level. I safely stayed there for the night - nice and dry. The next day I walked or more like waded around the convent in water all day.

This is one of my favorite stories because the sisters there told me they were surprised how a Vietnamese-American handled this situation. They were surprised I was not scared. I really enjoyed being with them and doing whatever the sisters did to clear the flood waters. Since that experience the Motherhouse raised the ground level up about 5 to 10 inches.   Now I can say, "I walked on water"... this was one of the most unique experiences I ever had!
