Birthdays are a Big Deal: Happy Birthday Mary! Happy Birthday Sr. Josephine!

It’s a celebration of you as the only person in the world with a particular unrepeatable set of DNA, a medley of personality quirks, and a distinctive perspective on the mysteries of the universe. And so, birthdays are to be observed.

Today, the Church celebrates the birthday of Mary, the dawn of our redemption, because she brought forth Jesus, the Sun of our Salvation. Let us join together in thanksgiving to God for giving us such a wonderful Mother and let us spend the day in joy, fellowship, and good food!

A few weeks ago, our community also celebrated a great birthday: Sr. Josephine’s 80^th! She is the oldest sister in our American Region and one of the pioneering sisters here in America. We are so grateful for her years of witness to the joy of consecrated life, her peaceful serenity in her golden years, and an unflagging generosity as she serves in the hidden small tasks of community living. We were able to organize a surprise birthday party for her and she was touched to have Bishop Edward Rice as one of her guests and sisters from all four communities present on her wondrous milestone of reaching 80 years of age!
